Less Bleach, More Lemons
(Page 67)

Personally, I hate the smell of bleach anyway. I’ll substitute anything natural I can for bleach. Lemons are so much more pleasant!

Instead of using harsh bleach to clean your cutting board, pour lemon juice on it. Your board will be fresh and sanitized, and you won’t have to think about bleach residue getting into your food. Icky.

One cup of lemon juice in your wash cycle will naturally bleach and brighten your cottons. You can’t beat the smell, either. It’s an amazing fabric whitener.

The great thing about lemons is that when you use all the juice, all you have left is a biodegradable, compost-able rind. You can cut them to use in your garbage disposal for getting rid of that nasty smell. If you put little pieces of peel around your doors outside, ants will stay out.

Lemons are great. They earned their own section later in this book. This was merely a tease!
