Get rid of your electric can opener!
(Page 80)

I’ve been saying it for years: get rid of that electric can opener! If even just every other person switched to a manual opener instead of an electric one, the energy savings would be staggering. And no, YOU are not allowed to assume that you are the “every other” person! That person should be some one with arthritis or some other situation that really truly requires them to need an electric can opener.

Is it just a convenience, or is it a necessity? Most things we do and items we use are sheer convenience. That’s all well and fine, but look where it has gotten us... We have to turn our thinking around. Start with that can opener.

Of course, I know you are not going to throw that thing away! You are going to give it to someone you know really needs it, or donate it. Right? Of course you are.
